In the Bristol city-region there are four universities, two of which have world-class research facilities, and there is a good supply of high-calibre research and development facilities / services and graduates available. The Universities of Bristol, Bath and UWE, all close by, have a number of 5* rated (RAE 2001 - nationally and internationally recognised) research departments. Expertise is particularly strong in the fields such as biotechnology, pharmacy, chemistry, nanotechnology and quantum computing, applied mathematics and engineering.
Locking Parklands has excellent transport connections with the rest of the UK. Fifty-two per cent of the UK's population is within a two hour drive of South West England. Bristol International Airport is 14 miles to the east of Weston-super-Mare, with direct flights to 90 destinations in the UK, Europe and USA.
