Important projects crucial to the re-development of Weston-super-Mare are starting to move forward with an unprecedented level of employment land release.

The former RAF Locking site, purchased by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and English Partnerships back in 2002, is a major site identified as part of the Weston Area Development Framework, with 25 hectares of employment land to be developed prior to 2011. The site is now named Locking Parklands.

The North Somerset Local Plan also allocates a 33 hectare business park, named Weston Park, on the east of Weston airfield. This is a joint venture between Persimmon Homes and North Somerset Council. The site will be designated as a high quality office location, with new road links to existing business sites to improve the local infrastucture. An additional 26 hectares of land at the western end of the Airfield has also been allocated for more general industry and warehousing.

The vision of Weston-super-Mare as a vital and vibrant economic centre is fast becoming a reality, and development of these new employment sites is expected from 2008 onwards.
